Preparing For Our Lenten Journey 2017

Posted by Ministry of St. Francis of Assisi on February 25, 2017 at 11:35 AM

I grew up in New Orleans and just assumed that everyone experienced what I experienced every Fat Tuesday leading into Ash Wednesday. Leading up to Mardi Gras day, everyone parties...well, pretty much everyone. People are attending parades and there is a LOT of partying going on with bars staying open into the wee hours of the morning. On Mardi Gras day...Fat Tuesday...the midnight hour strikes and ALL of New Orleans shuts down. Police on horses ride side-by-side down Bourbon Street and hundreds and hundreds of people spill out of the bars and into the streets making their way to someplace where they can sleep off the massive amounts of alcohol that they've been consuming for days on end. The city of New Orleans has transformed from Mardi Gras into the solemnity of Ash Wednesday with the midnight hour. The partying has come to an abrupt end and many folks with massive hang-overs attend church to have their foreheads crossed with ashes. What's on their collective minds is "What will I give up for Lent?" So my question to you? What will you give up for Lent? I'm not talking about alcohol or chocolate...I'm talking about that stuff that keeps you from being your authentic spiritual self. Could it be negativity? Or judging others? Or lack of meditation? What is keeping you from being your true authentic spiritual self? That's what we will be exploring during this Lenten Journey 2017. If you are on Facebook, look the ministry up. We have a page and we have a group for those who live in the local southeast Louisiana area/southwest Mississippi area. Each day, I will post musings about how you can create more spiritual authenticity into your life that is simple and easy. Until then, Happy Mardi Gras!!! Laissez Les Bonne Temps Roule!!
