Pet Grief

Pet Grief Support is important for those who have experienced the loss of a pet - recently or perhaps in the distant past. Honoring them is not all about letting go and forgetting, but embracing the lessons that our amazing animals offer to us.

All of life has a cycle. From the teeniest of insects to the mightiest of mammals – everything has a life cycle. Unfortunately, we see our animal’s life cycle so vividly throughout our lives. The excitement that we felt when they first entered our homes turns into deep sadness and grief when they are no longer with us and have died.

Grief is work. Grief is the normal response to any important loss in life. This loss can be a job, a house, a relationship, a person, or a pet. The loss of a pet or person occurs regardless of whether death followed a prolonged illness or a sudden accident. Grieving people experience both physical and emotional stresses and traumas as they try to adapt to the upheaval in their lives brought about by the loss.

During this process, it may come as a surprise that you felt so deeply about your pet. You may have been aware, but not mindful, of the many wonderful gifts your pet brought to your life. For many, the loss of a pet is the loss of a trusted companion. As you experience sadness and grief about the death of your pet, take time to consider your pet’s special place in your life.
