Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King

One of the greatest inauguration speeches was not given by an incoming President, but by a preacher on a hot, sweltering day in Washington, DC. No one knew what to expect from this man's speech, a man who's bravery was displayed not with anger, but with compassion. Dr. King never lifted a hand or yelled out words or brandished a weapon or even made threats. That is what threatened people of hate the most...his compassion. No one knew what he was about to say until he delivered his words and there were so many who anticipated his words to be very dare he, a black man, deliver words of acceptance and dreams and love for one another!! Thousands gathered to hear him in peace, even more thousands gathered to protest him in hate. What came from this man were words that would inspire not only those living in oppression, but those who were oppressing. It took time, even decades for some, but those words have inspired many to drop their words of hatred and embrace the dream. We all have a dream that one day we will live in harmony and as Dr. King once said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." Will you choose to be the darkness or the light? Will you choose to be the hate or the love? The choice is yours. And in more words by Dr. King, "I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream."
